Formula Student 2016
Team won the Breakthrough Award!

Autosport International NEC January 8th – 11th 2015

We had a very good attendance at the stand this year thanks in no smal part to Pro Race Simulators who provided a racing simulator free of charge for us. They will also be bringing a full motion simulator version for us at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

There were many enquires about the courses the School has to offer so hopefully some of them are translated into applications and acceptances for the start of the next academic year. Certainly at least one potential student telephoned the Uni from the show!

Look forward to being back next year. Hre are some pictures of our stand.

Two views of our stand with the racing simulator and some ‘real’ cars!

The Autosport Young Drivers paid us a visit (or two).

We learnt a lot just watching them ‘race’ on the simulator.

AI International Plastics & Laminates have joined the list of sponsors for the University race teams by supplying materials to enable the team to manufacture lightweight wheels for their electric racing cars.

Formed in 1980 AI International is one of the countries largest stockist of engineering plastics and industrial laminates. The products are used in a variety of applications in numerous industries including Engineering, Electrical and Electronic. AI International Plastics & Laminates have formed working partnerships with a variety of companies and can source and provide a variety of plastics through a single source.

Jamie Houghton, Sales manager of A & I Plastics Scotland said “We feel honored to become a supporter for Dundee University Motorsport & hope students gain knowledge from our excellent range of engineering plastic products, AI International will also offer its full technical support if required along with application development for future projects.”

Dr Alan Slade, of the University’s Mechanical & Electronic Engineering Department and UDM’s Project Manager, said the team was extremely grateful for the sponsorship from A & I Plastics. “Having a company that supplies F1 teams with lightweight engineering plastics on-board is a great incentive to the students.  This project is part of their second year coursework to design and make lightweight components for the Greenpower racing car, and enables them to push boundaries and work with major supply companies in the UK.”
